Train Training - The Basics

For those who take the train by “forced choice” I’m sure you can relate to a few of these points and for those who really couldn’t give two big letter “F’s” please do take note of the points mentioned below.

  • Firstly, if you see an elderly or pregnant person standing on the train, without a seat, how do you not feel guilty for not giving up your seat? I do understand seats are a rare commodity but does common decency no longer exist? (oh, stupid question.)

  • Secondly, if you are carrying a huge bag either on your arm or on your back please do the person behind you a favour and lower it to the floor. And please don’t just leave it lying around aimlessly, people will trip.  I have tripped.  It is not pleasant.

  • Thirdly, and this is said with no offence as I am a Christian and I do attend Church, but no one particularly enjoys being preached to at 06:45 on a Monday morning.  I am all for empowering oneself and helping others by getting the Word out there but it should not be done by force.(Btw God still hears you even when you whisper)

  • Fourthly, please open some WINDOWS! I know it is -1 degrees OUTSIDE but INSIDE it is like 25 degrees.  While you are napping in your cosy, comfortable seat, the rest of us are squashed like sardines in the middle of a carriage smelling a mix of onions, bad breath and armpits.  Someone first has to plea that they are about to faint before a crack of a window is opened. (Like, really?!)

  • Fifthly, why do people push? Is it so difficult to say “excuse me; I would like to get out?”  Use your words people! And why do people get excited and started pushing when the train hasn’t even stopped yet?  Where could you possibly be going?

  • And my last point. One that really, really gets my blood boiling.  How is it decent human behaviour to run from the other side of a carriage because someone has gotten up off their seat?  Not even asking if the people surrounding the seat are about to sit.  This is what happens: Person gets up off seat to leave the train, surrounding people looks around to see if there are any deserving individuals of the seat (refer to point number 1), looks back at seat, some random individual has already occupied the seat and seems not at all bothered that they have displayed forward behaviour.

Come on people, let’s work together towards simple train etiquette.
